Rebel Wilson Talks ‘Old-School’ Dating, Having A ‘Really Healthy Relationship’

Rebel Wilson got candid about her new romance.

The “Pitch Perfect” star is in a new romantic relationship after finding her self-worth following her successful “year of health” journey in 2020. According to Wilson, a friend set her up with the man she’s with at present and detailed how things between them started with a conversation.

“It was a setup through a friend,” Wilson told People. “We spoke on the phone for weeks before meeting. And that was a really good way to get to know each other. It was a bit old-school in that sense — very romantic.”

The “Senior Year” star and producer credited the importance of finding one’s self-worth in landing the type of love she has now. Wilson believed that the positive changes she went through reflected in the quality of romance she is enjoying at present.

“I think going through the process of finding more self-worth, I think that what you want in a partner is elevated, and so it’s great to have someone who feels like an equal partner and be in a healthy relationship,” she added. “There were times — I’m not saying with all my exes, they’re great — but there were some times that I was probably putting up with that I shouldn’t have. So it feels different to be in a really healthy relationship.”

Looking back, Wilson described herself as a late bloomer. The Australian actress was also focused on her studies. She has a law degree.

Wilson said it was “not an exaggeration” that no one “was really interested in dating me” when she was in her 20s. According to the actress, she had a snaggle tooth. Despite that she believed that “I was a catch if people really got to know me,” but no one was “really interested” in her. Although her dating life wasn’t very productive at the time, Wilson took it positively.

“But in a way that allowed me to not only have this amazing career and come up out of Australia, out of nowhere and get two degrees and then come to America and crush it. Would I have been able to do that if I had a serious relationship? Probably in my love life, I was meant to be a late bloomer anyways,” she continued.

Wilson was already in her 40s when she decided to lose weight for her health. She admitted that she “emotionally eats.” Even if she had already reached her target weight and was able to turn her former weight into a success story, the “How to be Single” star clarified that everyone is beautiful.

“People are beautiful [in] any shape or size, and I genuinely believe that. I just got to a point where I knew deep inside that I was engaging in some activities that were unhealthy,” she told People in November.

Wilson’s new movie “Senior Year” is streaming on Netflix.
